Here are some advanced tips for applying wall decals and wall stickers.

CUT THEM DOWN!
Last week we watched a video on YouTube about how to apply a wall sticker. The lady had a 1m high removable wall sticker which consisted of 6 long thin flowers. The width of the combined 6 flowers was about 1m as well.
She showed a method applying the wall sticker in one massive piece. We watched it from behind our hands, cringing at each point.

Let us explain.

The design was something like this picture.

Our recommendation.
• There is no need to rush to applying wall decals
• Secure the top edge securely with masking tape.
• Snip between each flower using sharp scissors.
• APPLY EACH FLOWER INDIVIDUALLY

You might think- oh but it will be so much quicker to just apply the whole piece. Sure, but if you twist, buckle or get a big bubble when applying that massive 1m x 1m decal there will be no return. You will have wasted your money.

Rather, take the turtle approach and win the race. By cutting between each flower, you reduce the application to manageable pieces of about 30cm wide. Much easier to handle. Risk of ruining wall sticker is reduced by 5 times!
Remember wall stickers are removable but they are not repositionable!

WORK SLOWLY AND WITH PATIENCE
We can’t stress enough that applying wall stickers is not ONLY fun- you have to do some thinking!

The end result is awesome and you will enjoy the decorating piece more than any other because you applied it yourself. But to get there you need to apply it.

Last week, I received a call from a customer, stressed out to the max because she had half the long sentence up but the other half wasn’t sticking. She was panicked and frustrated when she called.

The first piece of advice, is just sit back, make a cup of tea and assess the situation!

We completely understand that customers have searched the internet, found the wall sticker design that they like, are super excited when they order it and then it arrives- YAY- lets get cracking.

Our recommendation:
• Make afore mentioned cup of tea!
• Sit with instructions and read from beginning to end, underlining important bits.
• Collect all the tools required for application (should list these on instructions)
• Do not proceed without masking tape and a spirit level (if you are applying sentences)
• Consider whether you need a second person to assist you- normally recommended for larger decal and wall sticker designs.
• When you have completed all of the above steps, ensure you have a time when you won’t be disrupted. You cannot apply wall decals and walls tickers with kids running around and bumping you. Or you shouldn’t start applying decals if you know you need to run out to pick someone up- hence creating a stressed rushed environment.

Points to note:
• If applying sentences, the longest part of the application will be lining up the sentences using a spirit level. This needs lots of adjustments.
• After you remove backing paper and stick decals to the wall, you must leave the decals with the transfer tape sitting on the surface for at least half an hour before removing the transfer tape.
• If you are concerned at all, call the supplier for additional verbal assistance. They should be able to help you over the phone.

By the way, the reason our customer was in trouble was that they had recently painted the wall with a Teflon style paint. Think about it. Teflon wasn’t made to let things stick to it! Wall decals and wall stickers will not stick to Teflon paints either!
