Product

What material do you use for your removable wallpapers?

We use a vinyl wallpaper that is easy for you to self install.  It has a high tech adhesive that means the wallpaper panels can be easily installed, repositioned and removed.

What makes your product unique?

Our wall decal stickers are made from an ultra thin vinyl that is extremely durable. This vinyl has a matte finish, and the result is a design on your surface that looks like it has been hand painted.  Our products are stylish and classy, and are made from the highest quality materials to ensure longevity of life.

Additionally, our designs are created in-house in Australia and are based on customer requests and current trends.  These designs are both highly creative and unique and are only available on our website.

In addition, as Australia`s most trusted name in wall sticker production, we can provide you with the expertise to make the correct decisions regarding surfaces, selection of decals and application.

Don`t trust the cheapest wall sticker company promising you the world, because cheaper means "won`t stick" when it comes to vinyl.  Do your research with us and we can promise a successful decorating experience.

How do you make your product?

Our wall stickers are made from ultra thin vinyl, we individually cut each customer order as a silhouette from a solid block of colour.  We remove the unused or "negative" pieces of the design leaving only the design on a hard backing paper.  An application tape is then applied to the front of the design to assist in application.

For our door skins or other printed removable wallpapers we print these on a high tech vinyl with long lasting inks and repositionable adhesives.

What is a wall graphic?

Wall graphics are self-adhesive wall decals. They are a great alternative to wallpaper, paint or stencils and they give you choice. Choose your space, plan the design you`d like to make, and then apply. And when you`re tired of your design, say after years, a month, maybe a day – the decals are removable.

Wall graphics are also called wall stickers, wall decals, wall appliques, wall tattoos, wall transfers and many other names!

Is your product a sticker?

Most people refer to wall decals as wall stickers.  However we believe that wall stickers reflect a product that is more likely "peel and stick" than a true decal.  Stickers in the true sense of the word are thicker by nature and are not as good for staying on surfaces.

A "true" wall decal is cut from vinyl. Vinyl is a synthetic material that appears like a thin plastic, but it is not plastic. A decal will have a backing paper and a front transfer paper. Vinyls are self adhesive, much thinner than a sticker, and are able to withstand heat which can be used to ensure it sticks properly to the surface. A sticker would just bubble, but vinyl likes the heat and will contour to the surface.

As the industry has grown, the terms wall sticker and wall decal are interchanged freely.  We recommend reading the fine print to establish what quality level of product you are purchasing.

Can you print our company logo on the decal?

Wall decals or surface graphics usually consist of a design that is cut from a solid piece of vinyl. We put different coloured vinyls into the machine depending on what you order, and then we cut the design and prepare the decal for you.

To print full colour onto vinyl, essentially you are moving into the "sticker" idea where you would be printing colour onto a white vinyl and then cutting around the design. The vinyl is much thicker.

Yes we print full colour vinyl, however, this is only normally used for large signage for shops, offices and corporate applications. All of our consumer decals consist of a single solid colour.

What is the decal made of?

Wall decals are made from ultra-thin, self-adhesive matte vinyl film.  The vinyl is cast vinyl which is the same product that is applied to vehicles- meaning it is all weather proof and can withstand contaminants.

Is the decal sticker removable?

Yes, Cool Art Vinyl decal stickers are removable. They are not reusable.  PLEASE NOTE THIS!!!  Some suppliers offer "re-positionable" decals and they are thicker than real decals to assist in moving them, they do not look hand painted like the thinner NON re-positional decals.

Only the high tech vinyl used on our removable wallpapers and door skins are repositionable.

How long will the decals last?

They are perfect for temporary applications but can last for years. Outdoors the vinyl lasts up to 7 years. The problem in stating these timelines is we don’t know what surface you are applying them to. There are many factors in how long they will last including quality of the original surface and humidity and temperatures in the area.

The things that will shorten the life of the wall decal stickers are:

  • Stickers that are printed with a picture.  The solvent in the inks shortens the life of the decal.  Make sure you are ordering proper wall decals for long lasting classy decorating.
  • Poor surfaces that are not properly prepared.  PREPARATION of the surface is extremely important.  Please visit our decorating centre for many excellent articles on preparing surfaces.

Can we reuse the decals when we move office?

You cannot reuse our wall sticker graphics or vinyl lettering. Our decals are made from an ultra thin vinyl and they will tear and stretch as you remove them.

Other products that advertise that they are repositionable will not be made of the ultra thin vinyl that appears handpainted. They will be much thicker, allowing them to be moved many times.

You could consider applying the vinyl to a surface such a perspex sign, and then fixing this to the wall.  This will allow you to move the decal with you.

You CAN resuse our wallpaper and door skins which are printed on a high tech material with advanced adhesive properties.

Is the vinyl decal glossy or matte?

We can supply both, however we specialise in matt and semi sheen vinyls. Unfortunately there is a poor selection of greens, and therefore if you require olive or pale greens then these will be glossy. Please contact us to find out more about this.

How big is the product?

The size of the wall decals will be listed in the product details. If you have a custom idea, ask us about recommended sizes.

For self application of decals, we try not to make single pieces of the design larger than approx 50cm. We will always try and design the decal as a kit to assist in application.

Do you wholesale the Cool Art Vinyl products?

We provide bulk sales of products for resellers. Minimum order is 25 units each. WE DO NOT WHOLESALE and therefore can offer more competitive prices to the end consumer.

Can we get a sample?

Absolutely!  Highly recommended for surface tests or swatch colour tests. Simply email us via the Contact Us page.

Colours

What colours are the vinyl wall stickers available in?

Please select the colours link from the right hand column on the homepage, or using the links at the bottom of the website.

There are approx 20 wall decal colours available on the website (and growing).

Can we choose a colour not on the website?

You can certainly ask.  There are many colours available and we have chosen the most popular colours for this website.

For example if you would like a darker shade of red for your wall decal, then we have other reds we would provide. Etc etc etc.

Email us via the contact page before placing your order.  We can confirm if we do have that colour.  Then we can advise how to place the decal order online with the new colour choice.

What if you don`t have the colour we want?

We are happy to assist with the vinyl colours we have available.  If after consultaton with us, we determine we don`t have the colour, we can advise other options for you.

What if we want to have two colours for the decal?

For any custom requests the first step is to email us.

Custom Design

If I provide a design, can you cut it for me?

Yes we cut designs provided by customers. The artwork must be supplied to our specifications. If we have any issues and are required to do further design work on the artwork this will be quoted for. There is a minimum fee for custom projects.

Can you design something to suit our decorating space?

Yes, we can provide custom designs for you. Mostly we don`t charge for design as we add the item to our catalogue  or reuse the designs from our offline library of designs.  The cost will be based on how much vinyl is used in the design.

How much does it cost to design a decal for our office?

Normally our project costs include design, production and installation. We can provide free quotes. Clients consistently provide feedback on our affordable project costs for custom vinyl design.

Create Your Own

Can I choose my own words and sentences?

On the website we have a CREATE YOUR OWN application that can be used to design your own words and sentences.

The vinyl lettering we produce for this is high quality, and is a great way to  create your own style in your office or home.

How do I use the Create Your Own section?

To use the Create Your Own section you enter your text in the lines.  Then you alter the colour, size and font using the drop down menus next to each line.

The price will automatically calculate.  When satisfied with the words and sentences, simply select ADD TO CART.  The background colour on the system is simply to help you design- it is indicative of your wall colour and the vinyl lettering will NOT be made with a background.

Once you have moved into the shopping cart, the Create Your Own page clears so make sure you are satisfied with your work before moving into the cart.

Why does the QTY in the cart show 14 (for example)?

The QTY that carries through to the cart represents the amount of single items required to calculate the custom order.

Can I change my custom CREATE YOUR OWN order after I have paid?

If you email immediately after ordering then you can change something about your order.  Once the order has moved into production you will need to pay for any changes as we will already have the cut the vinyl.

Installation

Will wall decals ruin my walls?

When you remove the wall decals there is the possibility that the paint will lift off. A great test is to use a piece of masking tape and place it on the wall. As you lift it up, if the paint is lifting then this means you have a poor paintwork for decal application.

If after doing a masking tape test, the paint remains on the wall and not on the masking tape, then your walls will most likely be suitable for wall decals.

If you are unsure, request a sample swatch for a test from Cool Art Vinyl.

We provide tips and tricks in our instructions kits for safely removing decals from the walls.

How do we space the wall decal stickers?

If you are ordering a wall quote or words, the letters will be prespaced.  Depending on the length of the quote, we may provide the wall decals in one piece, or in several pieces.  You can apply to the wall in one line, staggered on multiple lines, or in different rooms (if you have a collection of words).

The vinyl lettering comes sandwiched between a backing paper and a transfer tape.  Duuring installation the backing paper and transfer tape are discarded leaving only the vinyl lettering on the wall.

Can we install the decals in a shower?

Yes. Decals need to be applied as per our instructions. Once applied, the decals will be resistant to water, heat and UV.

I want to put the decals across tiles. Can we do this?

If the tiles are smooth that would be best for surface graphics. But it will still work on patterned tiles, ie, ones with ridges and stone type appearance on the tile surface, but the decal may not look that good because the design would look messy on the tile surface.

With regards to crossing over tiles, if the grout is a high grout, so in line with tile or to about 1mm, that is best for the wall decal. If it is deep grout so there is more than 2mm from top of tile into grout, then it will be more difficult.

Vinyl is extremely pliable and we can assist you in applying across uneven surfaces. However we suggest you contact us and describe your tiles for us, then we can provide appropriate suggestions.

How long will it take for us to install the vinyl decals?

The longer the better! We suggest that you take your time and apply the decals with patience. An extra set of hands is always useful for larger installations. For a one line wall quote, perhaps 30 minutes.

I heard that we should use water when applying the vinyl, can you explain how this works?

We use water for installations onto glass and metals. However for the designs sold on this website, we only recommend dry application.

How can I prepare my surface?

Make sure the surface is clean and smooth. The quote will not adhere to stucco or brick like surfaces. The letters work great on windows, mirrors, painted walls, wood and metal. Not all wallpapers are created equal. Some have better surfaces than others for our words. The same with paint. If the paint has been applied over a primer and is clean and smooth you shouldn`t have any problem with them. If you are applying wall quotes to a freshly painted surface, wait at least 3 weeks for the paint to dry and cure completely before applying wall quotes. A primer coat under your paint will help it stick better.

Please visit our decorating centre to read articles about paint preparation.

How much does it cost to get you to install it at our event?

We charge an hourly rate for installation, and this will be quoted as a part of your overall project cost. We do this regularly for weddings and corporate functions.

I bought a wall sticker from Ikea and now parts of it are not sticking. Can you give me any advice?

If the sticker was a peel and stick product, it is more likely to peel off the surface. There is no solution unfortunately and many consumers are tricked into thinking the wall stickers will look "just like the picture".

If the product was a decal made from vinyl you could try using a hair dryer or heat gun to assist in adhering to the wall. Don`t do this to a sticker because it will burn and bubble.

How do you take the lettering off?

When you`re ready for a new quote or you just want to remove your quote, you can use a pair of tweezers to pull them off. If they have been up for a couple of years they sometimes harden a little. Lightly heat them up with a hair dyer then they should peel off easily. There may be a slight sticky residue that will come off with rubbing alcohol or another glue solvent.

I messed up when I was installing my wall decal.  Will you replace it?

If you messed up a single letter, or a small piece of the design.  We may be able to help you out by sending a replacement piece.  This is at the discretion of our management.  There is no obligation for Cool Art Vinyl to make any replacement.

If you mess up installing a large design, then we can only replace the design at cost to you.  To assist in avoiding any installation issues we provide the following:

  1. Option for sample test piece.
  2. Access to detailed instructions, both words and pictures.
  3. We have tested the application of the design first.  We are certain that the design can be applied by an individual.
